Self Sacrifice – What Does it Look Like?

November 3, 2010

Jesus showed us the Ultimate Sacrifice. HE GAVE HIS LIFE.

Can we not, in return, give over our selfish wants and desires that are not of Him?

“Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4

The closer you are in your walk with Christ, the more your desires will conform to His.

This week I challenge you….

  • Pray every moring for God to give you the desires of HIS heart.
  • Before making any major decisions this week, PRAY….And ask God to show you His Will.
  • Self sacrifice for Jesus in One area of your life.

I Ate Too Much Halloween Candy!

November 2, 2010

The thing about Halloween is this….I end up eating all the candy!

Now, I feel like this pumpkin….blah!

I admit I went back and forth this year about whether to participate in Halloween trick-or-teating. We have never participated in our neighborhood because we usually go to our church’s trunk-or-treat. I felt as though the trunk-or-treat at the church was safer and also sending a healthier message to my kids. I didn’t want my 2-year-old seeing ghosts, witches, goblins, etc.

This year my church decided not to have a trunk-or-treat so we made plans to trick-or-treat with our neighbors. They have 3 boys and 2 of them are infants, so I thought it would be nice to get to know them better….maybe invite them to church! So I took a chance on my son going around the neighborhood with screaming kids and scary costumes.

My scarecrow

My son did very well. He did get scared of a neighbor of mine who was dressed as the ghost from the movie “Scream” and he was scared of some other costumes but overall, he was great. We went early and it was still light out most of the time. He ran around with my neighbor’s son and had a great time. I explained to him about ghosts and witches and how they are not real. I told him they were just silly costumes and not to be scared.

The good thing about trick-or-treating is that I did have a chance to hang out with my neighbors and I can only pray that maybe they will visit our church soon. I feel that Halloween is the only chance I have  a reason to knock on some of my neighbor’s doors and introduce myself. Only God knows what will come of it, but I am hoping for some nice new relationships!

God Bless!

Antiobiotics – making a STINK in my house!

October 30, 2010

I feel as though my entire week has been filled with poopy, smelly, yucky diapers! Dare I go on??? I know you want to hear about this….

Yes, my 10 month old, Benjamin, has the stinkers. I have almost given up on my cloth this week. I have to put every diaper straight into the wash, which is wearing me out! Doing loads of laundry every day is not my idea of fun;-) My poor baby is on his final day of antiobiotics for a double ear infection, which has killed his tummy. We finally went to the doctor a week ago after his symptoms weren’t getting any better. He was teething and I understand that ear infections can happen during the teething periods for some children. Per my pediatrician, I understand that my son needs the antiobiotic since getting better on his own wasn’t working fast enough, but seeing his stomach ripped apart makes me never want to use them again. Yes, I can do the breastmilk or garlic drops in the ear but these have not worked for me in the past. They take too long and don’t clear the infection. It just comes right back.

I don’t want my son to be in pain. You can tell his ears were bothering him and he would wake up at night, be up for hours, and cry. Either way, I can’t stand him being in pain from his ear infection and I can’t stand him having an upset tummy from the antiobiotic. So, in the end I give him the antiobiotics and then opt for FloraBaby aftercare.

FloraBaby by Renew Life is a probiotic formula created for infants and toddlers to replenish the good flora back to the digestive track after the antibiotics has killed off the good and bad bacteria. I have used probiotics for years and they work amazingly. I used to have IBS (or Irritable Bowel Syndome) and they were the ONLY thing that helped me. I also gave them to my first son when he had tummy issues and after a dose of antiobiotics, and they definitely seemed to aid in his recovery. I wish I could find a natural, yet effective solution to antiobiotics for my kids. If anyone has suggestions, please post comments! Until then, I will just keep using them only when necessary and then my FloraBaby.

Week 4: Make Your Home a Haven

October 26, 2010

From Courtney at Women Living Well:

This week’s Challenge is:
Keep your candle going, the music playing, and add some tender moments with your family. Have a pillow party in the family room and get out every blanket and pillow in the house and be cozy with the kids or your hubby! Even if you live alone you can do this. Enjoy a cozy evening of hot cider and caramel corn. Give a 5 minute back rub to every single person in your house…and for a double challenge- try to give one every day to each family member! During your tender moment with the family, ask them how they feel about this challenge. Are they enjoying it? Is it helpful? Is there anything they would change. Give your family listening ears.

WHAT A FUN WEEK THIS WILL BE! I am ready, willing and excited about what God is going to do this week for my family! I absolutely LOVE giving back rubs…and receiving them, no doubt!!

I find myself getting so busy that I FORGET TO HAVE FUN:-( I need to get back to my fun-self and just forget about the all STUFF I need to do. I hope you are able to de-stress and have fun too. Good Luck!

Mark 10:16 says “And (Jesus) took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.”

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep – A Beautiful Loss

October 24, 2010

Today I am thankful. I am thankful for my wonderful, loving husband and my 2 beautiful, healthy children. I realized today all the things I take for granted. Psalms 100:4 says, Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.

Today was such a beautiful day. We had an appointment to get our family portraits made by my friend, Jessica Duplantis of Angel Eyes Photography. Jessica is not only an amazing photographer and artist, but has a huge heart for helping others. After arriving at her house for our shoot, we decided to take some photos outside and made our way though the woods by her house. She began telling me about her next appointment that afternoon. She told me she was going down to Egleston’s Hospital to take photos of a baby. I was not expecting what came next…that “the baby was no longer with us.”  MY HEART SANK, and I felt so terribly sad. Not only for the family, but for my friend who would be taking beautiful photographs of the baby who was already with her father in heaven. How terribly sad, but how wonderfully great to have the strength and desire to create a life-long treasure for the family, who’s baby is now in heaven.

Jessica is a member of Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, a foundation who gives families that are suffering loss of a baby a remembrance portraiture of their child. I was looking over their site…and just wanted to break down and cry. I can’t imagine going to the hospital to deliver my baby and not taking them home with me. I can’t fathom a loss of a child I had been carrying in my womb for close to 9 months. I do remember my first pregnancy and then miscarriage at 10-weeks, and how HEARTWRENCHING it was for me. My HEART goes out to those mothers.

Today I am SO thankful for my babies, who arrived healthy and safe here by God’s grace and also sad, for the one I lost. I am sad for all the babies who were lost (including the ones who never had a chance) and thankful for the Grace that God gives because HE LOVES US SO MUCH! I am also grateful to people like Jessica, who have a heart for Christ and helping others, in such a unique way, to deal with their pain.

Listen to this Selah song and video for Audrey Caroline called “I Will Carry You.”

It is beautiful about the loss of a her baby.

I love to crochet, especially when it starts getting cooler outside. There is nothing like a warm, handmade scarf around your neck or soft booties on your baby’s feet during the colder months. I wish I had more time right now to crochet. Guess I need to add that to my To Do List or I should say, Wish I Had Time To Do List!

I found an adorable blog, EASY MAKES ME HAPPY, about easy crochet and handmade projects. If you are a crochet-lovin’ or crafty-type mama, she has some adorable ideas that you might enjoy!
